Tackling Cybersecurity Challenges in 2026 with Illumio

It’s a new year, but the security challenges of last year are still lingering on. Hybrid infrastructure and cloud-native applications aren’t providing the visibility that businesses need. Complexities are increasing. And security teams—more than ever before—can’t always see where the vulnerabilities are. They’re stretched thin, and traditional D&R tools just aren’t keeping up. As a result, threat detection, rapid response, and data protection are big dilemmas that businesses need to address quickly . . . especially as we move into 2026.

With these challenges in mind, Illumio conducted a survey last fall with 1,124 senior cybersecurity and IT business leaders across 14 industries and eight countries. Their answers were eye-opening and highlighted the clear priorities that business leaders have for 2026.

Here are a few of the survey results:

  • 2,020 daily alerts on average are received by security teams—even when using the latest detection systems.
  • 79% reported that their security teams receive more alerts than they can thoroughly investigate.
  • 15.6 hours per week on average is how long security teams spend researching false positives.
  • 73% reported that false positives significantly hinder their focus on the REAL threats.
  • 92% said that missed or uninvestigated alerts have led to real security incidents.
